Spotlessly clean. Breakfast was nice, the very spacious room had - I suppose - a Japanese design. A comfortable double bed, a low table and two very low stools, but no sofa, no chair, no desk.
Very spacious bathroom.
A Jacuzzi in the bathroom AND on the terrace!

I liked best out hotel, ryokan that accepted tattoos in the public onsen and also had a private bathroom, with an amazing room overall.
The deers are quite agressive, not attacking people but stealing anything they can and munching on your clothes if they smell food on you. Still it was a very interesting experience. The crafts museum was just a small shop, but the games museum was super interactive and fun, with very friendly staff. Both of those were free and close by. In Nara everything is pretty close, walking distance, and the streets are very beautiful with traditional architecture.

We went to enjoy one night and I wish I would have more time to spend there. Is a beautiful place to enjoy nature for sure. We where so in love with the deers that spent too much time just feeding them and petting them, and we didn't think there where much more.
The food was the most expensive than what we had in the others cities we visited.
Some deers were sick!
Overall we lode it so much!

As the major cities in Japan become larger and more...
As the major cities in Japan become larger and more identical to each other, they also become a little difficult for tourists to manage easily and feel at home in. But Nara has retained the feel it had when I was last there, half a century ago. Back then I said it was the favourite city, along with Kyoto, of any I visited in Japan. Right now I say it is STILL my favourite city, and in the 21st century it has left Kyoto well behind. If I were spending a week in the Kansai area, I would base myself in Nara in preference to Osaka or any of the "majors", and do day trips everywhere else. You will save on accommodation, for a start!

The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to...
The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to it are a must-see. The museum was okay. The Isui-en Wisteria garden was okay too but it was too crowded because the flowers were in bloom. There are a number of restaurants and cafes on the street from the Nara Station to Nara Park.
Walking from Hotel Nikko/Nara Station to Nara Park and walking to all the attractions nearby was very tiring. So, I may recommend taking the bus on the way back, if possible. Also, it suddenly started raining in the afternoon and luckily, I had an umbrella with me.
I wished I had more time to see some of the other attractions outside of the Nara Park.

This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip.
This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. If you could choose any hotel for your vacation this has to be the one because it will be your favorite. The food and staff were my favorites. The room was clean and comfy and they even had buckwheat pillows!

The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds...
The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds are massed, all trying to impress deer with the same rice crackers that everyone else is trying to feed them, then pick a direction and walk away from them. There is so much more to the park: primeval forests, ancient stone pathways leading to temples and small villages older than most of our own countries, hidden pockets of lost time. It is hard to explain how it feels to not have another human being in sight, finding yourself passing stone idols carved by people hundreds of years ago, only to see a deer eating moss from the base of said idol that stops chewing to literally bow to you. Of course you bow back and scramble in your bag for some kind of treat to offer your new best friend (I recommend unsalted pretzel sticks, the deer hate plain rice crackers as much as we do at this point) and then having it gently eat from the palm of your hand, before you both again swap polite bows and go on your merry way. Then you hear a crow sing from the ancient forest behind you, and you just know: this is pretty cool.
The hotel is very authentic. "The hotel has a charming vintage vibe, full of stories from years past. Our room, 'Fuju,' was spacious and incredibly comfortable. The staff were exceptional, and the location couldn't have been better—close to Nara Park and the station. While they didn't have washing machines on-site, there's a convenient facility just a 7-minute walk away. The onsen was a good experience to end your day with. Pluses, the hotel lobby has items for sale, good for last-minute suviners
Super location. From the windows I could see the roof Kofuku-Ji and the Pagoda (trees block some view but ok). The temple is just a couple hundreds of meters away. It's literally in Nara Park. One can walk to Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha. Many restaurants to choose from. Shopping areas are nearby. Kitetsu Station is 10 minutes walk. The room is spacious and clean. No frill but everything works fine. Super Clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Will most definitely recommend to solo travelers
One of the best place we stay at. The services provided by the hotel, and the very nice hotel staff were top notch. The in room private onsen, and the public one was excellent. We stayed in a Japanese style room, love all the detail of the corridor and the style. We especially enjoy the half board meals provided. I recommend anyone stay there to get it. I’ll definitely come back again if I’m visiting Nara again. Hotel is located very close to the train station and buses are easy walk to.
I had the most amazing stay at the hotel! The hotel is really clean and I enjoyed the full tatami flooring and shoes off policy. There were so many small thoughtful touches like free yoghurt drink and popsicles after onsen and free ramen for supper. Also the washing machine was free while dryer was chargeable. The breakfast spread was super awesome as well with regional specialities that are a good size for trying. Also the location being right next to JR Nara can't be beaten.
Super clean, spacious rooms and big beds compared to the typical twin/double rooms we’ve seen at other hotels. Many things are automated (e.g. check-in done by a CGI velociraptor) but humans were on hand to assist as needed. Lots of additional services like free rental of manga. They also seemed to rent bicycles too although I didn’t use them. Great location within a 15 min walk to the station, Nara park, Todaiji
Our stay at ANDO HOTEL NARA was exceptional. This property is the perfect mix between beautiful facilities, amazing food and great service. The staff was very lovely and attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect. The food at the restaurant was some of the best food we had during our trip in Japan. It's definitely worth booking the panoramic view rooms that offer a beautiful view over the city.
Very beautiful property. We had a private bath with a mountain view and it was very beautiful. We loved everything about this place. Very clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and nice. We cannot eat raw fish and they accommodated us easily and the food was exceptional. Very nice and delicious. The town of Nara is beautiful and easy to get around in. The hotel is also in a great location.
Just everything you can expect from a small business hotel. The location is boring but convenient, only 5 minutes walk from JR Nara station and 10 minutes walk from Kintetsu Nara station where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. The bus stop to Nara Park is only about 30 metres away making this hotel a good base to explore Nara from.
The location is fabulous. Practically in Nara park. And so close to Naramachi, the neighborhood just south of Sarusawa Pond where there are many quaint restaurants that serve great food, not to mention the narrow streets with traditional houses that are a delight to explore. The check-in instructions were easy to follow.
This lovely hotel has a great location, serves a delicious breakfast, and has a friendly staff. We were able to rent bikes to ride around the park which was a nice added touch. The hotel was perfectly located to lots of restaurants, shops, and the the park. It was also very quiet and we slept easily.
Great location right by Nara station, so an easy 3-minute walk with luggage into the hotel. Also, very simple to walk to all the sites if you wish. Otherwise, the bus station is next door. Wonderful staff and we liked the complementary lounge with wine and sake. Breakfast buffet was exceptional too.
Rooms, location, and staff are exceptional. One of the best hotels I have stayed at in a long time. The proximity to other Nara attractions and small shops to wander around in is perfect. The hotel also has an impressive history that is well displayed. I highly recommend this hotel.
We thought the hotel was really lovely. It had a boutique feel to it and a trendy Japanese interior with beautiful furniture and plants. The breakfast was really nicely presented too. The location for exploring Nara was excellent. The shower in our room was brilliant too!
It's probably one of the best hotels in Nara.
It's right beside the train station and a 15-minute walk from the park
The onsen was amazing and was open until midnight to relax after a big walking day.
The beds were super comfortable.
Great value for money..
Modern, spotless hotel right next to JR Nara station with helpful staff. There is a convenience store on the ground floor and restaurants and shops very close by. Access to buses - including to the temples, is also very close.
The hotel was within walking distance of tourist attractions and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was larger than we expected. We felt very relaxed and had a fabulous time in Nara.
Great location, near to train station and Nara park.
I forgot my laptop charger in the hotel, staff are so kind to assist sending delivery for me. Highly appreciated:)
